Wakes and Tides

wake /wāk/

noun: wake; plural noun: wakes
a trail of disturbed water or air left by the passage of a ship or aircraft.

used to refer to the aftermath or consequences of something.

This on-going series is informed by concepts of displacement, erasure, loss, and accretion. The first of these collages began when I was traveling the world by sea. On particularly long stretches, I would get seasick and seeking fresh air, would stand at the aft while watching the wake left in the vessel’s path. Watching the horizon had a stabilizing effect, in spite of the choppy motion of the ocean below.
